Daily Living Activities We Support for Seniors

Enjoy your independence while we take care of the rest!

Activities of daily living, often abbreviated as ADLs, are tasks that allow a person to maintain a status and feeling of independence. They include things like bathing, dressing, using the bathroom, moving around, and eating and drinking. The ability to perform these tasks usually indicates whether someone needs assisted living and can be used to evaluate their overall health.

Heathwood Assisted Living provides senior living options that
support daily living activities, including everything from basic ADLs to activities that help our residents embrace their best lives yet. Let’s go over the ways in which we do this.

Fitness and Movement

At both our Williamsville and Penfield locations, we offer regular exercise programs to help our residents strengthen and develop their motor skills, as well as prevent falls. We partner with physical therapists to offer onsite physical therapy. Occupational therapy is also available to help residents with everyday living tasks. Regardless of the therapy a resident is or isn’t receiving, our staff members continually monitor them to minimize falls and hospitalizations.

Heathwood’s Williamsville campus has beautifully manicured gardens, while the Penfield campus has an inviting outdoor courtyard and walking paths for residents to enjoy. Both locations give residents the opportunity to take a scenic walk whenever they wish, weather and abilities permitting.

Effective Communication

There are plenty of opportunities to socialize at Heathwood, such as attending club meetings and activities; relaxing in our many sitting areas; patronizing our onsite cafes, libraries, and movie theaters; and walking in our gardens. Residents enjoy card games, board games, movie nights, and book clubs with others while they cultivate new friendships and bonds. Additionally, the occupational therapy we provide can help to boost cognitive abilities and thus communication. Resident support groups are also available.

Of course, the friendly and helpful staff at Heathwood is always standing by, making it easy for residents to get whatever they need no matter their abilities. For instance, each staff member in our memory care units is trained in evidence-based practices that help to manage dementia-related illnesses at every stage.

Nutrition and Wellness

Heathwood has medical staff available to provide onsite primary care and podiatry. Medication management services are also provided, and three chef-prepared meals are served daily. Some apartment units are available with kitchenettes, allowing residents to prepare their own favorite dishes when they wish to. Our staff also readily helps residents with diabetic management and oxygen management.

Personal Hygiene

Hygiene is a snap at Heathwood. There are weekly housekeeping and laundry services available, as well as assistance with bathing and dressing for residents who need it. Also, there are apartments available with spa-like bathing suites and private baths. These not only allow residents to keep good personal hygiene but also help them feel like they’re bathing and cleaning in luxury.

Embracing All That Life Has to Offer

At Heathwood Assisted Living, our goal is to foster an environment that feels like home with extra benefits. Our caring staff makes sure all the daily chores are covered, so residents can pursue leisure activities and cultivate new friendships. We can help residents in many different ways, including fitness, communication, transportation, nutrition, and personal hygiene. While the exact offerings at our Williamsville and Penfield campuses differ, the staff and facilities at both make it possible for residents to enjoy their golden years while not having to worry about their essential needs.
